Out of Frame

Hello! :) It finally rained yesterday and haze has cleared up quite a lot. Praise God for that! Today I'd be showing you a nail art I did last week and wore over the weekend. It is inspired by this photo. I love the setting of the photo as well as the colours and the atmosphere it gives - a little bit industrial and a little bit mysterious.

Lacqueerisa: Out of Frame

Taking the inspiration, I played around with the idea of having flowers seemingly growing out of the frame. Somehow, this idea reminds me of the times when I was excessively making cards and decorating them. I was so 'addicted' I would find reasons to so I can make the cards (along with the huge mess! =P).

Lacqueerisa: Out of Frame

Ahh I've been wanting to do something like this for ages!! The frames always tend to 'scare' me off. Thus, stalling the execution time. I couldn't put it off any longer since my eyes set on the photo that inspired me. And I'm so glad I did! I love how it turned out. My heart fluttered with happiness when these received compliments from a lady at the counter :D

Lacqueerisa: Out of Frame

Perhaps, my black frame could be bigger. And the index a little better. Those were my only thoughts after completing this look. If my hand's temperature wasn't that hot, I would have redo them. Anyway, I started with two coats of light grey on each nail. Let dry. Using a sponge with loose gaps, I dabbed on lightly a lighter grey shade (OPI MBSW). Then I used my darker grey polish and painted the half of the nails - making sure I have some intended irregularities for a more interesting look. Allow them to dry. Using the sponge again and this time using the same light grey of the base colour, dab lightly onto the darker grey. Next, I used my nail art brush to draw the black frame, roses and the vines accordingly.

On an overall scale, I'm very satisfied with how they turned out. On most fingers, except the index. I can't seem to get the vines to be 'right'. The thought of redo-ing during the super hot previous week felt like a huge no-no to me. Speaking of hot weather, to anyone of you who are living under hot climates, how do you cope with polishing under such conditions? There was once I had to resort to dipped my fingers into icy cool water just to prevent them from bubbling up. So I'm curious, would you happen to have any other tips?

  3. Thank you! Haha, but I couldn't have done it without the photo :)

Oh, it's been constantly 35°C around here lately. Sometimes even at night, it's up to 30°C. So it's been really hot. It's something I noticed about nail polish, that when the weather is hot, it tends to bubble up - even if it's thinly applied. But during cooler conditions (like if I had the air conditioner switched on and my hands are cold) the polish dries smooth with hardly any bubbles. So I'm curious, how others who lived in hotter climates overcome this bubbling issue?

Hehe, index finger says Thank you! :D

  11. :D Thank you!! Soooo happy to hear you love it! It's quite a theme, eh? I've been aching forever to do it! Might do another similar one in future, I guess. :)

Ohh, erm... I don't think polishes are the problem, rather the weather. In my case, it's more like the reaction nail polish has towards heat. I would describe them as boiling on my nails - ahahahaha!! but of course, that's a little extreme to say that. XD However, I'm beginning to wonder if there's such thing as 'ideal room temperature' to polish nails... o_0
