Paint Me Red

Hello! It's the 7th day of Chinese New Year, Happy Birthday Everyone! ;) And I couldn't be happier that I have another CNY appropriate nail art to show you. Today's nail art is inspired by an ang pau (red packet) I received during one of my visitations. The ang pau had a really adorable picture of boy/girl with just the right amount of gold and redness on them! :) My brother got one with the boy picture while my sister and I got the girl, for obvious reason. Lols!

For starters, I want to take this chance to thank my dear bestie once again for helping me with the title for this nail art! Thank you :) I really couldn't think of a better name. She derived this name from the phrase 'Paint The Town Red' which means to go out and party and have a good time. And I thought it was very fitting considering its CNY time and even if the title were to be taken literally.

Here's me (my hand) posing with inspired ang pau. Maybe my Singaporean readers are more likely to be familiar with ang pau design as it is from a bank called DBS. One of the things I look forward to while receiving ang pau is the designs on them. I don't mind the amount of $$ I get, but if I get any ang pau with pretty designs or something different and adorable, I would be like -- Woooooowwww *.* lols

There is also another reason why I chose to be inspired by red ang pau is because my Mom was reading papers and read aloud an opinion by a fellow reader that prefers to keep the red packets, red. There was a time when people did break from the conventional red to explore more designs and variations. Like having white packets or yellow or gold. I must admit I did enjoy all the variations I see, but she has a valid point. It just wouldn't make sense otherwise for being called ang pau.

I started with gradient background for all nails. Using my dotting tool, I did the large flowers first with gold and then only overlap carefully with reds and pinks leaving thin outlines showing through. I learn this technique from Maryam Maquillage. Then using the sharp end of toothpick to add the gold details. As for the character, I mainly use nail art brush but for some detailing, it was done with sharp end of toothpick.

Thought I should close in on the thumb since it has the tendency to get ignored most of the time. So I guess we've come to the end of this post. As usual, hope you have liked this look. This is one of my favourite CNY nails I did to date. Hahahaha! I think we all know why~ hihi ^^
