Hello! It's the 7th day of Chinese New Year, Happy Birthday Everyone! ;) And I couldn't be happier that I have another CNY appropriate nail art to show you. Today's nail art is inspired by an ang pau (red packet) I received during one of my visitations. The ang pau had a really adorable picture of boy/girl with just the right amount of gold and redness on them! :) My brother got one with the boy picture while my sister and I got the girl, for obvious reason. Lols!
For starters, I want to take this chance to thank my dear bestie once again for helping me with the title for this nail art! Thank you :) I really couldn't think of a better name. She derived this name from the phrase 'Paint The Town Red' which means to go out and party and have a good time. And I thought it was very fitting considering its CNY time and even if the title were to be taken literally.
Here's me (my hand) posing with inspired ang pau. Maybe my Singaporean readers are more likely to be familiar with ang pau design as it is from a bank called DBS. One of the things I look forward to while receiving ang pau is the designs on them. I don't mind the amount of $$ I get, but if I get any ang pau with pretty designs or something different and adorable, I would be like -- Woooooowwww *.* lols
There is also another reason why I chose to be inspired by red ang pau is because my Mom was reading papers and read aloud an opinion by a fellow reader that prefers to keep the red packets, red. There was a time when people did break from the conventional red to explore more designs and variations. Like having white packets or yellow or gold. I must admit I did enjoy all the variations I see, but she has a valid point. It just wouldn't make sense otherwise for being called ang pau.
I started with gradient background for all nails. Using my dotting tool, I did the large flowers first with gold and then only overlap carefully with reds and pinks leaving thin outlines showing through. I learn this technique from Maryam Maquillage. Then using the sharp end of toothpick to add the gold details. As for the character, I mainly use nail art brush but for some detailing, it was done with sharp end of toothpick.
Thought I should close in on the thumb since it has the tendency to get ignored most of the time. So I guess we've come to the end of this post. As usual, hope you have liked this look. This is one of my favourite CNY nails I did to date. Hahahaha! I think we all know why~ hihi ^^

Mind-blown! Seriously I love this naill art so much, definitely one of my favs of yours ♥ Tell your bestie she's awsome cause that titel fits perfectly to this nail art, almost like they're meant to be! The obvious red nails but more the phrase.. brilliant idea. I didn't realize the ombre red first, maybe due to the lightning cause it does look more obvious in the 4th picture. It's adds a nice touch to the nail art. Overall I like the many red shades here and yess, definitely prefer ang paus to be red. I remember the trend with different colors but I'd always choose the red one. Love for what it stands for and it gives me that warm, festive feeling ^-^ As you said the amount of gold is perfect and doesn't distract but emphasise the beauty. You also did an amazing job with the little girl. I must say that your version looks even cuter because her cheeks are more rosy in your version. Oh and... could it be that this is your cinderella hand? I mean..no way it is, isn't it? That would be too much for me to handle *__* I call you sensei then :D
ReplyDeleteOverall, not only a stunning nail art but very interesting post as well. I've learned a new word and a new phrase so thank you! ^-^
P.S Yay for spotlight on the thumb (^_^)b
Ahhhhh these are so cute!! And really really pretty, the flowers and the lil' girl :3 I LOVE THIS DESIGN!! Ang paus are too fun, I have one sitting beside my nail polish cause the packet is so cute, but I am going to have a fun time spending the contents (hehehehe), in regulation of course :P That subtle gradient is really nice too :)
ReplyDeleteWow, it looks beautiful! So much detail!
ReplyDeleteWowza, everything about this looks so cool!! What a fun inspiration. You're so talented :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing! Very cute and eye catching!
ReplyDeleteIt looks adorable, very original design!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! ^~^ Makes me so happy to hear you say that :D Haha, yeah I meant it to be subtle gradient, mimicking the background on the angpau (doubt it showed clearly though). Hehe, I was afraid I'd have ruin the girl's face since I'm fairly new to character nail art. So I'm glad it wasn't too bad, and you like it ^^ Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHmm, I'm too sure what cinderella hand means. But if you meant dominant hand, my left hand is dominant ^~^ Hence, usually most of the complicated nail art will be on the right hand XD hahahahaha! So you're definitely my sensei when it comes to character/anime/cartoon nail arts ;)
♥
:D Thank you very much, Gillian! Coming from you, Queen of cute nail arts! That's really an honour ^~^ I'm just so glad you like it too! Hahahaha! Oh the perks of being single :3 I too, shall be having fun spending mine (hopefully, wisely :P)
ReplyDeleteThank you! :D I wished I could have had more details in there though, but it was just out of my abilities. Still I'm really glad the efforts paid off! ^~^
ReplyDeleteHey, Liesl! Thank you so much! What a great compliment that is, coming from you ^.^ I'm glad you're enjoying this look as well ♥
