Christmas Poinsettia

Merry Christmas everyone! I know its soooo late but I often feel Christmas comes way too slow and goes way too fast! Hahaha! Can't blame it, I guess. Considering the calender says, only one day for Christmas and approximately 364 days of waiting for it. Hahahaha!!

So, what look did you sport for Christmas this year? :)

Bubbles And A Turtle

Heyaass! I was going to post another floral mani today...but... Do you all know about Nailpolis? They have a few events organised and in each event members took part of, he/she gets a limited edition badge. Erm, if you play games... yeah.. it feels like playing games and earning titles, etc etc. Except, you won't receive a special power or additional stats when you get them :P (or maybe you do, who knows you might unlock new skills for trying out new mani ideas, hahahaha!) Don't get me wrong though. I like this idea. I think its such a fun concept and its one of the points that separates Nailpolis from other (nail) media platform.

Red-Eared Slider

Lovely day to you! :) *Ahem* I guess I would keep the unpleasant post out of this week. Since it's been a rather good week. Don't want to "spoil combo" by having a sudden not-so-nice post. LOLs! So, last Tuesday, I was on my way out when found this little fellow stranded in front of my gate. :O

I Wanna Wish You A Merry Christmas!

Erm, a bit too early? ;P

Hey all! This is the fifth installation of 12 Christmas Nails Series and what I have here is skittle Christmas Nails which was a recreation of these gorgeously made Edible Christmas Cupcake Toppers which I've come across in Etsy. Well, I hadn't quite come up with a title suitable for this look but a trip to the mall landed me with this title. Since it's nearing Christmas, needless to say Christmas Songs were playing throughout the mall and among the songs that played was Feliz Navidad. I came home, ready to blog. Looking at my mani, nothing else came into mind except the words from the song - I wanna wish you a Merry Christmas~

F4 Polish Peppermint Stix!

Hello!! Today I'm very excited to share about a prize that I've won in a giveaway held by F4 Polish at their facebook page. It was a giveaway held to celebrate the mark of their 1,000 fans like on their facebook page.  I was really looking forward to receive this, because I got to choose any polish of my choice and get it at JUMBO size :D I've chosen one from their Christmas Collection which is Peppermint Stix! I chose it because everywhere I went, I've only been seeing Red & White and Peppermints! The name is so catchy too! Plus, I really wanted a red and white glitter, this is just perfect! Thank you again to Jenn, Lacey and Lexy, the ladies behind F4 Polish for this wonderful prize!

One of my favourite food!

it's Dinner time! And I'm definitely craving for some pumpkin goodness! Perhaps tomorrow? Heya All!!

Its near Halloween and dear Pumpkins are EVERYWHERE! Hahahaha!! It's just weird how Malaysians seems to be celebrating everything! ;) So while I'm not one who celebrates Halloween, I'm sure one who celebrates the goodness of Pumpkins! Pumpkin soups, pumpkin dishes, steamed pumpkins....*drools* So my nails today are well, Pumpkin inspired! When one has an orange as fabulous as Mango Tango, there's no use resisting pumpkins on nails! (i'm overusing the word 'pumpkins' lols)

The nail designs are inspired by Robin Moses' Pumpkin Patch. I liked that she made use of the different shapes of pumpkins. Hehehe. And I got the idea of utilizing flakies as 'lights' from Vicky of The Nail Artiste. They are both such amazing talented artist!

Stippling the Fall

Hello everyone. Today's nails are inspired by a picture I saw on Pinterest. Its a lovely paper sculpture by Yuko Tadaka Keller. As well as a little vision I had in mind when I thought of what I wanna do for the nails. I wanted to create the look of lights dangling down using the stippling method. Initially, I've pick warm and cool colours to work with but I saw that Chalkboard Nails is holding a nail art contest and themed only either Warm Tones or Cool Tones nail designs and I thought I'd take it as a challenge to create a nail art inspired by only warm or cool tones. Honestly, I find it rather hard at first since I really loved the contrast between warm and cool palettes. I've kept to my original idea of inspiration and pick out some of the warm tones in my stash and got myself stippling.

It's rather unfortunate that the nail art contest is only open to US Residents only. I would have love to enter even for the sake of fun. But nah, I don't think mine will make the cut since its really simple. If you are a nail art enthusiast and from the US, please by all means, take this opportunity to participate in the Nail Art Contest. Who knows, you might be a winner! ;)

Anyway, for my nails I've started off with nude base and sponge on a little yellow covering only a quarter of my nails. Since I want the dots to be able to be as mini sized as possible I used a toothpick and go on started off with stippling white dots acting as a highlight and a rough guide for all my other colours to follow on. Little did I know that they turn out to look very suitable for fall! Almost winter-like too (thanks to the white haha!)

I think it turned out okay, didn't happen like how I visioned it to. But I'm feeling very inspired! You can expect to see more stippling action to come! ;)

More Fun Stuffs about Glitters

Good morning! I have here some knowledge about glitters which I think are very worth sharing. Have you ever had times when you wonder if it is your application technique or the glitter bottle just holds too little glitters? Well, I know I did wondered that. And off I go to google - tap tap tip tap tap pap! what is the best way to apply glitter?

Oh what a realization moment dawn upon me when I saw the dabbing technique. No wonder it was so hard getting those glitters on my nails those days. I was probably doing it wrong! Perhaps not wrong, just not the best way it could be done. Here's one tutorial I find very useful regarding the dabbing technique:

wait, did any of you actually know of this method and no one told me? whyyyy?? *sobs*

Oh Basketballs!

Hello dearies! I've just came back from celebrating my brother's birthday. And so I thought I should do basketball themed nails (since both of us likes basketball :D - although I have no talent in it) in conjunction to celebrating this wonderful day. Also, a chance to try out the black stripper I just bought recently!

NOTD - Jeans of Vintage Florals

Oh, I just remembered its Friday!

Well, honestly I never thought I'd be doing NOTD after the previous galaxy nails. But after I posted that post, I got a little busy and didn't have time to actually do it on my left hand as previously mentioned. In a way, that is good because shortly after that I've got a spark of inspiration by one of my favourite hat that I have which was lying on the bed. Its a jeans sort of material with a cotton cloth that have these gorgeously distressed vintage florals prints sewed on the inside.

So what do you think of these? They sure took some time. And look! My topcoat's been polluted with glitters from the pearly topcoats I used in the Galaxy Nails (haha!). So yes, unintended glitters there. But still all good, since it matches the holographic black polish that I have used in order to mimic the black jeans colour. I do love how these turned out, although given the chance, I'll do the lines thinner, if my skills may allow me so. Not to forget the topcoat application flattens out thus adding thickness to the lines.

NOTD - Jeans of Vintage Florals

Here's a closed up look so that you can see the beautiful subtle holographic in the black polish and its very opaque, in the above pictures are all just 1 coat. Its one of my firsts holographic nail polishes. This and a purple. Actually, they are the only holographic nail polish I've ever owned. I really should expand holographic collections. hahaha! (I can't believe this is the first time I've used it after all the years sitting in my storage.....the drying time is very slow. I'd suggest dipping with icy cold water to speed up drying time)

Nail polishes and Tools used to accomplish this look :

  • Toothpick that has a sharp end
  • RUBI - Blue suede shoes
  • The Face Shop - GR501
  • The Face Shop - YL701
  • Skin Food Nail Vita - BW704
  • Revlon - Pretty In Papaya
  • Inglot - 730 (solid black nail polish)
  • L'elan Vital - Black Holographic Nail Lacquer (there isn't a name, and I believe this collection have been discontinued)
  • Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear - Chocolate Nut (used this for outlining the florals)
  • BANDI - Crystal Brown (its a very sheer polish, so I've used it to sponge a little on the florals for a distressed look)
A little challenging to attempt, but the patience pays off well. So, looks like my duo hand galaxy nails mani will have to wait for some other time while I enjoy wearing this manicure for the weekend. ;P

* a few words about L'elan Vital: its a nail polish brand that's only available from Cosway (as far as I know, I've not seen this brand sold anywhere else). The one that I've used for the above manicure, is a really old collection. I've got it around late 2004 or early 2005 but I vividly recall wearing the purple one for CNY in 2005... anyway, you get the idea; a really, really, old polish... hahaha.

Makeup Savvy Nail Challenge Day 5 - Nude

As stated, today's Day 5 and the theme is Nude. Sounds pretty simple eh? But I find myself spending quite sometime wondering what to do. Ah, I do know, however, what base nude colour I'd want to put on - Bandi's Crystal Brown. I recalled I love the combination of Crystal Brown (or any brownish nude polish) with Mint colours and thought I should give the watercolour technique a go.

Somehow, they didn't turn out watercolour-ish. In my eyes, they resembled paper fibers that blends together which pleased me a lot because I'm quite a paper fanatic. I love how matte finish completes this whole look! :D

Nail polishes used :
  • Bandi Crystal Brown

A Glittering Review

Good Morning!

Along with the Bandi polishes, I've purchased two more polishes which are from Pretty2U outlet of Sunway Pyramid. Honestly, I was there to look for a warm grey nail polish but failed to find a suitable one. Instead, I've gotten myself two glittery top coats! :D

Sheng Ji nail polish, well, I'm guessing its a brand from China since there were a lot of chinese characters on it. Well, since I can't read chinese characters, I am not sure what the name of this glitter is. I looked down and saw the number 50, its colour code I guess? Moving on, this is somewhat of silverish-gold glitters. They looked very pretty in the bottle. Yes, in the bottle... I'd show you what I mean:

*Sigh* They looked full in the bottle, who would have guessed that it's going to be so loose; the glitters I mean. I may have to resort to manually putting on the glitters with dotting tools. In the pictures above, I've used Sheng Ji #50 over Bandi Mineral Green.

Last but not least, Sheng Ji #58. Its a bottle full of multi-coloured glitters! Now that is something different to buy! I mean, I know I've seen many stunning indie polishes available online but I don't get to see multi-coloured glitters such as this one in Malaysia! I grabbed it right away!

I seriously love this multi-coloured glitter nail polish! Yes they are rather hard to get on the nails, but I love them all the same. The power of "rare"? hahahaha!! In the pictures above, Sheng Ji #58 over Skin Food BR612.

Overall, I am quite satisfied with these two polishes. Can't complain much since I got both of them at the price of MYR 10.00. I like that both these polishes comes with clear lacquer base. Makes mixing and matching a whole lot more flexible. So yes, and the fact that I can find a colourful glitter polish at such a price really made my day!

Here's a short review/swatch what's on my nails before adding those wonderful colourful glitters.

Skin Food's nail vita nail polishes have great formulas and the brushes are big. Skin Food BR612, is a shimmery-foil-like finish. Its rather dark gold colour. But they do take some time to dry its not too long, you can always speed up the process by dipping your nails into a bowl of icy cold water :)

Do you like multi-coloured glitters like I do?

Update: Recently I've realised that Sheng Ji #50 wrinkles up upon using a top coat over it.

BANDI : Swatch/Review

Hello!

In my last post I mentioned that I've bought some nail polishes. I bought 4 new ones to be precised. But I'd split them up in two posts.

These are MYR 29.00 a bottle. Bought them because I was given voucher of MYR 5.00 but only can be used when I spent MYR 50.00 above.

BANDI Nail Polishes, Review/Swatch

So, I'll start off with swatches of Bandi Crystal Brown (S208). I love this colour! Its kinda similar with Elianto's Light Coffee but they are not the same. This one has shimmers and are more yellowish. Actually if you see on 1 coat, it looks like coffee stain on my nails (haha!) Okay, what I meant to say is that they are really crazily sheer. It'd be best to layer them on top of another similar colour (I might try with Elianto's Light Coffee). Unless of course, you don't mind doing multiple coats to get it opaque.

And now for Bandi's Mineral Green (S713)! I adore this hue too. I've been looking to get one similar to sage green and I fell in love with this Mineral Green when I saw it.

Yes, compared to Crystal Brown, Mineral Green is much more opaque. And only required two coats. Aw, look at it, look at it! Aren't they such a beautiful green?

Oh by the way, I've not used top coats in any of these pictures. Look at that gloss! BANDI is has such great formula, they do have wide brush (have I mentioned?) that allows very easy and smooth application. And they don't take that long to dry too. Makes painting nails a lot more fun eh? ;)

Review: Twinkiling Pink by BANDI

Hello again.

Came across this brand name BANDI in an outlet called Max Beauty in Setia City Mall few days ago. The have a very wide selection of nail polishes. Price range from RM29 to RM39. So I scanned around to see which bottle is worth getting at that moment and my eyes landed on this gorgeous bottle of Glitter Flakes.

Bandi Twinkiling Pink Nail Polish Review
Bandi Twinkiling Pink MYR 39.00

Beautiful isn't it? This is called Twinkiling Pink. They have other flake glitter polishes too but this was the one that caught my eye. And their polishes are free of the Big-3. Which is good. Less harmful chemicals. =) The application experience is great as well. And this baby dries fast. The only downside to this polish is that it has a very heavy chemical smell.

I know how many out there layered it over dark colours in order to allow viewers to truly see the gorgeous beauty that flake glitters has. But I kinda liked it over one of my favourite nail polish colour.

Hope I've manage to capture some of its beauty with my lay-man camera. Hee hee. These are all under artificial lighting.

Absolutely love them. I'd be back to that shop to get more colours in the future. Here's another angle to show off more of the Twinkiling Pink gorgeous goodness!

Simply adore this Glitter Flake. Its likely I will be using it as often as I can in the near future. Can't get enough of this Glitter goodness!
