The Five China Glaze I Owned

Hello fellow readers! I shall warn you ahead this is going to be a long post! ;) There's quite a lot I want to say, and there is no obligation in reading though. Hehe!

Somewhere in March, I've actually made my first ever purchase of China Glaze polishes. It's quite crazy, as it didn't hit me they were my firsts until I was on my way home and feeling all excited about my very worthwhile buy. Then I got extra hyped! Lol!!

I am uncertain how many of you would do this, but I've been loitering around China Glaze counters looking for possible colours that would interest me and checking out which collection they carry or don't. More often than not, I'd end up leaving that place empty handed, but still loiter about there again the next time I happened to pass by. And then, during my random yet frequent loitering in the month of March, I noticed a polish I've never noticed before (busy looking for blues all those times), Fairy Dust. Omgosh! So pretty!!! And it has scatter holo properties! What the heck, why I've never set eyes on this before! The salesgirl there was kind enough to assist and let me know it was priced about MYR 30.00. Apparently it was under best buys. I looked around a little more and decided to only get Fairy Dust, then she notified me that buying two, they give Pom Pom as a free gift. OH! Sounds good! I wasn't too sure what else to get, but I finally settled for Optical Illusion (also under best buys) which I do know it's from the Prismatic Collection last year. And to my lovely surprise, I was also given a free pouch! Neat!

China Glaze Fairy Dust

This is gems in bottle. Serious. No joke. Not just that, it's magic in a bottle, it contains real Fairy Dusts!

What? You don't believe me? See the above picture? On my index, thumb and pinky are two coats of OPI My Private Jet, whose holos are old and dusty and about to fade out. On the middle and ring finger are two coats of Max Factor Glossfinity Opal, a neutral grey shade that has shimmer properties and leans slightly purple. With just a little sprinkling (1 easy smooth coat) of China Glaze Fairy Dust.....

Voilà! A whole new fun and youthful makeover! Just like magic, no? ;)

Watch them sparkle!

One of the best polishes I've ever bought. Imagine all the possibilities and varieties I could achieve with this bottle of Fairy Dust! :D

China Glaze Optical Illusion

China Glaze Optical Illusion Swatched

This is China Glaze Optical Illusion from the Prismatic Collection. It was not a polish I fancy too much from seeing the swatch on nail wheel there and the bottle. I did not try though. I really wonder why I'm reluctant to, especially when they have testers there. Since I was told to choose another polish to qualify myself for the promotion, I settled for this shade, as it looks really aquatic and very mermaid-ish (also it's name influenced my decision too).

China Glaze Optical Illusion Swatched

My oh my. I never thought I'd love it as much as I do now. Finally I understood what others meant and felt when they talked about picking up a shade that they clearly had not expect to love. I'm sooo grateful and happy that I've pick this one up! I love the tealness in the polish.

On my thumb, index and pinky finger are two coats of China Glaze Optical Illusion over one coat of Skin Food Pedicure Sparkle #08 (a foilish teal). And on my middle and ring finger are three coats of China Glaze Optical Illusion on it's own. Applies flawlessly and so packed with glitters! Besides, I think I know why it is called 'Optical Illusion' from certain angles you are able to see that slight purple shift. It doesn't show up in my pictures but in real life, it's there. :)

China Glaze Pom Pom

China Glaze Pom Pom Swatched

China Glaze Pom Pom is a sheer dark pink base with pink and silver glitters. Usually, this wouldn't be a shade I'd pick up as I hardly wear pink on my nails. But it so pretty! What a bonus to have gotten this as a free gift :)

China Glaze Pom Pom Swatched

On the middle and ring finger are three coats on it's own. Thumb, index and pinky are two coats over Maybelline Unforgetable Red. What a stunner! Application was flawless and the glitters dries pretty smooth even at third coat.

There's something about this shade and glitter mix that somehow reminds me of Christmas. I wonder what nail art I could come up with, with this shade. For the time being, I am thinking of doing one inspired by Cheerleader outfit or something. (Can't help thinking about Cheerleading with Pom Pom as this polish name).

And recently, just the weekends of Mother's day, I've purchased two more bottles of China Glaze polishes taking advantage of their anniversary sale in Isetan, 1Utama. 15% off normal priced items with an additional 10% off for Isetan Card Members + free express manicure with any purchase! I took this chance to give my Mom a quick pampering. I'd say, super thumbs up for their wonderful customer services. Although I wish they have been a little more generous with Seche Vite top coat, just to smooth out the glitter and seal the tips, the manicure was already chipping the next day.

China Glaze Nail Polish

China Glaze Sea Spray

China Glaze Sea Spray Swatched

I love this shade! It's vintage pale blue with hardly noticeable shimmers that gives it a beautiful soft finish! Having them on my nails, I was sure. This shade is definitely going in my all time favourite shades!

China Glaze Sea Spray Swatched

In the picture, are two thin coats of China Glaze Sea Spray with no top coat. I love the formula! So easy to work with and dries rather fast. If the weather is hot, it has the tendency to bubbled up. It's much ideal to polish under cool conditions. :)

China Glaze Sea Spray Swatched

What a great colour! Great to wear on it's own, especially for everyday wear! This is definitely my go-to colour to wear on days when I don't have time to polish but want colours on my nails. Not to forget, it would make a great base for nail art as well! ♥

China Glaze Champagne Kisses

Ahh, during that trip in March, I had meant to get this bottle. But it wasn't on offer. I just wasn't willing to pay the expensive price and I did mentioned, I will wait for it to be on discount/sales. Hahaha! The salesgirl did say 'It might be a long wait'. Haha I remember thinking to myself 'It's okay, I can wait. The polish ain't running anywhere.' But I guess two months time is not long. Score~!

China Glaze Champagne Kisses Swatched

Pardon the teal heart, I forgot to take it on it's own. China Glaze Champagne Kisses is a very blingy and glittery mix of coppers and gold tiny glitters. Which makes gave it a rose gold hue. Absolutely love this! It finishes rather gritty, but I don't mind. I think it enhances the sparkles of the glitters.

China Glaze Champagne Kisses Swatched

These are with top coat, Sasatinnie Gel Topcoat. However, it doesn't smooth out glitters, which is actually perfect for this, as I didn't want it to be smooth but still remain that glitter texture.

China Glaze Champagne Kisses Swatched

My Mom wore this shade for Mother's Day, so I wanted something on my nails to match hers. Haha! This was the first version, before I decide to do away with the blue heart as I'm not satisfied how it looked.

And here is the finalized design on my nails. It is very simple three hearts for her three babies! ;) And more colours for much vibrant finish. The teal heart was done using Skin Food Pedicure Sparkle #08,  the red BK #20 and periwinkle blue is It's Skin Shimmer Collection BL201.

Ah now to conclude the post, overall I love China Glaze's formulas but not so much with the brush. Some of the brushes are uneven at the tip, and that could cause wonky/uneven application. My bottle of China Glaze Sea Spray had 1 longer brush strand, which I've resolve to trim it off otherwise face the consequences of uneven strokes. Hahaha! But really, for the price paid and the reputation they have, I expected details to be taken care of. Brushes are quite essential to provide smooth and flawless application.

China Glaze Nail Polish

Oh before I forgot, the pouch ideally fits three bottles, but it could fit five. haha!

  1. I have Fairy Dust too, and it's probably my most used nail polish eve though I don't even really China Glaze. I just love how pretty it makes everything. It can look really dull in pictures though, like tiny silver glitter. I have Fairy Dust right now on my nails.

I have liquid crystal (or something like that) from the Prismatic collection. It's amazing! You did a really good job picking up your first China Glazes :D

Btw I only dislike China Glaze for its brush. It just doesn't work for me, it's too thin.

  2. I think it's pretty much a must have in most nail polish collections, hahaha! I can't wait to place it over blue nail polishes just so they'd be scattered holos! Ditto what you said! Definitely adds sparkles to every polishes!

Ah, thank you! I'm glad you think so! I guess the countless times loitering about there and the long time spent choosing polishes helps! Lol, I could easily take 1 hour just staring at polishes or more.. oops. It's rather strange, I thought I'd pick up at least one from the Bohemian Collection, but I did not. I guess probably seen too many of it already.. =/

Very true. It's the first thing I noticed and dislike about it. The brush. Once they fix that, it would be so much better :)

  3. Great picks!! Awesome that you got a free gift, here china glaze is impossible to find, so a free gift would be out of the question!! The pouch is adorable too. I really enjoyed your swatches, I have to say your editing is lovely!!! I also really like your final look with the hearts!! :)

  4. Thank you! Yeah, it was the most worth-it buys! MYR60 for two, plus 1 free is equivalent to getting MYR20 per-bottle! Before they opened a store in the mall there, they are pretty hard to find here too. But I've also managed to find a few stores who sells online prices offline. Which is what I prefer, offline purchases.

Thank you again! I'm very thrilled you loved them :) I do spend quite some time getting them done, it's really rewarding to see readers appreciating it ♥

  5. You are so lucky to find Fairy Dust! Apparently it's discontinued...I have it too and I love it! You got some great colours :) China Glaze is one of my favourite brands, they have many great and versatile colours for good prices!

  6. Eh it is? Hmm, I wonder if I should stock it up. Thank you! I'm very glad I got them. Yes, I have to agree with the great choice of colours, I had a hard time deciding which to get. Lol!! But the another salesgirl also told me that there are actually some collections that they don't carry. That was quite saddening. Anyway, with great offers coming now and then, China Glaze is bound to be one my favourites too :D

  7. I love them all but Fairy Dust is stunning! I also like Sea Spray very much :)

  8. The blue ones are gorgeous!!! Lucky you! There are no China glaze polishes in my town and in Russia as a hole, I think. :((

  9. I also bought fairy dust a few days ago :)

I saw him on a picture and totally fell in love with him :D

All of the colors look gorgeous! Like your blog a lot!

    Greetings from Germany :)

  10. Ah, exactly my thoughts too! Fairy Dust totally blew me away! So glad such a polish is in my stash now! What a treasure indeed :D I love Sea Spray! It even smooths out very nicely too ♥

  11. Ahh thank you!! I'm so happy to hear you're liking them too! Yeah, I suppose I'm very fortunate to be able to find some here. Hopefully it'd be available to Russia soon ♥

  12. Hello Vivi! Nice to have you stopped by! :D Hahah yay for the purchasing Fairy Dust to! It sure is a gem in bottle! And thank you so much! It's truly wonderful to hear you like the swatches and my blog! ♥

  13. They don't have China Glaze here. At least, it's not easy to find. I did manage to track some down a while ago at close to US price, but I was a little underwhelmed. I think maybe mine had been sitting around on a shelf somewhere for too long before I bought them, because the consistency was kinda weird. ;_; But oh my God, Fairy Dust looks amazing. And, as usual, beautiful nail art.

  14. Eh? That is surprising. Hmm, OPI do have a similar bottle too. Just recently I saw Rebecca from Rebecca Likes Nails swatching it. hold on...http://www.rebeccalikesnails.com/2013/05/china-glaze-fairy-dust-vs-opi-yule-love.html ahh there you go!

Thank you! Haha, glad you love it though it was really simple :D Ah sure sucks to get 'troubled' bottles. Hope you'd be able to find better sellers with ideal prices!

  15. It's so cute to read this post because I could totally tell how much you love the polishes and how happy you are with them ^.^
I loiter around the stores as well just to take a glimpse at some polishes, new arrivals etc without buying them.. I think the sales lady already think I'm a freak or I a thief xD Whatever,
Fairy Dust, Optical Illusion and Sea Spray are my fav here. They are too beautiful to be true actually *__*
I only own 1 China Glaze polish so far (japanese koi) but I definitely want to buy more. The formulas are mostly really good from what I've tested. But I agree with you on the brushes. They're meeh~ Could be better

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hahahah! It's true! I am satisfied with my purchases and for rather good deals! But yea, I totally get what you mean too. I often get the vibe that the salesgirls are thinking I probably wasted their time accompanying me circulating the nail polish stashes yadayada (hey, I didn't ask them to anyway...) hahahahaha!! Sometimes I feel really bad too, as I was just browsing and looking for potential 'want' colours to get.

Haha!! They are such beauty isn't it? Owning Fairy Dust is like a dream come true! I can't wait to swatch it over one of my shimmery blues!

Wow, I've just googled the colour. Ohmygoodness! That's like a perfectly bright neon orange!! Yes, do buy! It is quite worth it aside from the brush... Lol! It seems to me, most people feels the same about the brush, I wonder if the team in charge would realised the rather obvious issue? ohoho~

  17. Sadly OPI is like $21 in Australia so I don't touch it unless I buy online anyway. D;< So, I'd be more inclined to go the China Glaze route. Thanks for the link, though. ^^

    ReplyDelete
  18. D: that is so expensive! Ha, I guess a trip to US might be a good alternative too, except the ticket would be expensive.. Then again Australia alone has got tons of talented Indie makers, maybe you could request a custom? ;D
